Dear colleague,

We are delighted to invite you to our symposium, organised by Mundipharma International Limited, entitled Are we seeing a renaissance of aerosol inhalers in asthma? at this year’s European Respiratory Society International Congress in Milan, Italy.

‘Renaissance’ means ‘rebirth’ or ‘reawakening’, and is typically used to describe the great revival of art, literature and learning in Europe between the 14th and 17th centuries. This celebrated movement marked a new era of culture and intellectual development, and flourished particularly in Italy, with Milan regarded as one of the leading cities of the Italian Renaissance.

In a series of interactive, joint presentations, the internationally renowned faculty will explore whether we are seeing a renaissance of aerosol inhalers by discussing some of the common perceptions surrounding inhalers used for the treatment of asthma and present evidence for the reality in clinical practice. We will review the real-life outcomes of patients with asthma who are using inhaled corticosteroids/long-acting β2-agonists (ICS/LABAs), and will explore the importance of favourable inhaler attributes, drug deposition throughout the airways, and good inhaler technique. Finally, we will consider how the management of asthma with aerosol inhalers may evolve in the future, including the use of digital technologies.

We look forward to meeting you in Milan, for what promises to be a highly interesting, interactive and most informative symposium.
